Mellow, with lots of soft vocals
The majority of these tunes (all but two of them) are very mellow songs, with beautiful, relaxing melodies and soft vocals from not-so-well-known vocalists.

A couple of the songs are slightly (emphasis on slightly) reminiscent of Tom Scott's work on Apple Juice. About 3 tunes have the bass support of Marcus Miller and 1 has some heavily flanged/chorused keyboard work that sounds like Richard Tee.
However, the tunes aren't full of the driving energy you might have experienced on Tom Scott's work with the LA Express and some of his tunes on Blow It Out and New York Connection.

If you like soft, relaxing, R&B oriented music, that sounds much like the typical smooth jazz that's on the market today, then you might enjoy this CD.

If you're looking for more of Tom Scott's fun, funky, rocky, bluesy and jazzy work like he did with the LA express (music that will go down in history as unforgettable, and innovative), there's a good chance you'll be disappointed with this one.

New Found Freedom is "Yummy and Quite Fabulous"
"I went out and bought this CD and I loved "New Found Freedom". Now, I am not easy to please when it comes to jazz , but I truly enjoyed this CD. This CD is upbeat and sassy, sort of funky, sophisticated and yet has a romantic mix of smooth easy listening songs. It's quite a stirring and intoxicating musical cocktail one might say. Yes,Tom Scott takes you on a journey to places you've never been with his sweet magnificent Sax. I enjoy driving while it plays. You can actually really savor each song and there are a number of songs on this CD that really make you want to "quake and groove" to the music (and I never thought I'd say that). It's a perfect "drive-away" CD or just a nice CD to cozy up with someone special by the fireplace, or enjoy with friends by the pool. It's the perfect CD to just let your mind drift and unwind while you dance with someone or just soak alone in the tub with a nice array of soft lit candles. This is a serious CD with one truly excellent collection of songs which will melt your stress away and it has something in it for everyone. Tom Scott's friends know that he is a truly humble guy and he'd probably say no to this, but those who know his track record have no doubt that he is one of the legendary saxophone players of our time and this CD is really yummy and quite fabulous. Scott knew what people wanted to hear, while he was cooking up this latest and quite delectable CD. Get it now!!! Carmen, NYC."

UMPH! Oh so good !
I agree with Mr. Jim a reviewer from MO. This is a really great album/CD. I am old school. You have some really great vocals here with Ann Nesby and Jonathan Butler. I don't see how anyone can put this CD down. Everything about this cd is outstanding. I highly recommend this cd just like I would Grover Washington. This is for the jazz buff and the party people. The cut Can you stand the rain is umph. I want to be with you makes you want to find somebody if you don't have. If you can get this CD, I suggest you do. I am not the best writer here, but I can bet your heart you will love this CD. Never too far from you check it out. That is a bad cut. Check it out! umph!
Could have been a contender
Fabulous musicianship, flawless execution, decent charts, great production (given the likely limited budget), but missing the mark/spark. Perfect for The Weather Channel, sadly.

I was particularly disappointed with the drum machine tracks. Some of them sounded like they dragged the 808 out of the closet and in a half-hour's time poked in a loop and some robot fills. This sort of music demands a human, in my opinion.

A little of John Guerin, or Steve Gadd, or Andy Newmark, or a lot more Ricky Lawson, etc., etc., and it could have been great.
