This set collects together three classic Wayne Shorter Blue Note albums, Juju, Speak No Evil and Adam's Apple. Shorter has always brought a wholly unique concept to his compositions and his saxophone improvisations. During his years with Miles Davis, he recorded a stunning body of work, of which these three are the finest and most influential.
Disc 1: Speak No Evil Recorded on December 24, 1964 at the Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
Freddie Hubbard - trumpet Wayne Shorter - tenor sax Herbie Hancock - piano Ron Carter - bass Elvin Jones - drums
Wayne Shorter's third masterpiece recorded for Blue Note in 1964 with bandmembers Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Elvin Jones. Wayne's writing and playing is, as always, incandescent and cutting-edge. "Speak No Evil," "Witch Hunt" and "Infant Eyes" have become jazz standards. This magical session is capped off with a previously unissued alternate take of "Dance Cadaverous." Includes FRANCIS WOLFF photographs and one bonus track (previously unissued).
Disc 2: Ju Ju Recorded: Aug 3, 1964
One of the most exciting and innovative voices in modem jazz, Wayne Shorter was in his final weeks with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers before joining Miles Davis when he recorded this exceptional album with John Coltrane's Rolls Royce rhythm section. His angular improvisations and unique compositions take a left turn at every opportunity, but Shorter makes it all work magnificently. Includes two alternate takes.
Disc 3: Adam's Apple Recorded: Feb 3, 1966-Feb 14, 1966 Wayne Shorter - Tenor Saxophone Herbie Hancock - Piano Reggie Workman - Bass Joe Chambers - Drums
Wayne Shorter was at his creative peak with the Miles Davis Quintet when he recorded this masterpiece with bandmate Herbie Hancock. From the ultra hip groove of the title tune to the now classic "Footprints," this is among the best. |
