Jazz
The music on this album was all recorded in one day and finds an unaccompanied Fats Waller dealing with a variety of folk songs and spirituals, much of them out of character with the stereotype of Waller as a happy-go-lucky, partying extrovert. He plays piano on the first six numbers while performing in a much more somber mood on organ for the last seven songs. Not essential music, but Fats Waller collectors will want this unusual set. ---Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |
