Only a handful of late 20th century rock songs claim the musical impact of the tune "I Wanna Be Sedated." As authored and performed by the seminal American punk band The Ramones, this 2 1/2 minute single - issued on the 1978 LP Road to Ruin - carried the wave of popular music dramatically away from raw, no-frills punk and toward the shore of early 1980s new wave; in it, one can hear the influences of later acts as diverse as The Cars, Madness and Oingo Boingo. The documentary release Songs that Changed the World: The Ramones - I Wanna Be Sedated revisits "Sedated" and evaluates its influence on subsequent bands and musical movements, as well as its facilitation of punk's transition into mainstream entertainment.
