From the Impact Series, Songs That Changed The World - featuring Run DMC & Aerosmith: Walk This Way became the original rap/heavy metal video crossover song. With their gold chains and Adidas, they were the first rappers to earn gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums; the first to have their videos played on MTV; the first to appear on American Bandstand; and the first to grace the cover of Rolling Stone.
When Aerosmith released the single "Walk this Way," from the 1975 LP Toys in the Attic, not even the band members (let alone the most prescient critics) managed to foresee the degree to which it would ultimately reshape the landscape of American popular music. Even decades later, the number qualifies as the historical locus point between rock and rap, a status cemented in the mind of the public when Run D.M.C.'s Jam Master Jay remixed the tune and issued it on the group's 1986 blockbuster album Raising Hell. Now, the documentary program Songs that Changed the World: Run DMC/Aerosmith - Walk This Way revisits the seminal number and evaluates its stunning musical and cultural impact. ---Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide |
