If ever a band could be described as being an absolute bloody mess it was King Kurt. The bastard child of a Zombie Punk and Zulu Rockabilly, this disheveled large hair gang of reprobates stormed the concert halls of merry England throughout the early eighties turning stages into virtual swamps of beer, cider and canned groceries. Then there was the music-if you could call it that-a crazed and desperate marriage of the worst taste and the very best rock n roll. It's almost too incredible to believe that these guys actually had hits. But they did and for a brief period they became exactly what the jaded youth of the UK's post-punk wilderness needed. Every gig an event simply not to be missed.
Captured here at the legendary Marquee Club, London England on 30th December 1983 this is a new classic, available for the first time on DVD. Witness this disgusting plague of psychobilly rat-men in their full goo-drenched glory as they hurtle through the very best and worst of their repertoire, including the hits "Destination Zulu Land" and "Mack The Knife." Probably the messiest concert you'll ever witness, this DVD should be watched with a change of clothes close at hand. OooWalawalawala!
The first archive footage ever to be released on DVD of one of the most successful bands to emerge from the alternative rock genre - King Kurt. King Kurt were formed in 1981 with Jef Harvey on vocals, Paul Laventhol (Thwack) and John Reddington on guitars, Rory Lyons on drums, Bert Boustead on bass and school boy Maggot on Sax.
They became a unique band, and are still very popular over two decades later - gathering fans from the Psychobilly and Rockabilly scenes. The band recorded for the legendary Stiff Records and enjoyed mainstream UK chart success.
The DVD features a full show the band played in London at the height of the chart scaling 1980's success. Amongst the tracks featured are official UK top seventy-five hits "Destination Zululand", "Mack The Knife" and "Banana Banana", along with UK Independent chart top ten hit "Zulu Beat". |
