Two great performances: The Manhattan Club andiUp Yer Tour.
Formed in Ipswich during the late seventies punk boom it took two name changes and a spelling adjustment before the band settled for The Adicts (the second 'd' was dropped due to a name clash). The band didn't really take off until 1979 when they played their first London gig at the Breakneck in Camden where they arrived with a coachload of their local followers. The gigs success led to a one-record deal with Dining Out. The resulting four track e.p. Lunchtime With The Adicts went on to sell around 10,000copies and got them to number two in the independent record charts. John Peel was quick to catch on and the band recorded four tracks at the Maida Vale studios, which were broadcast as a Peel Session in November 1979 and later turned up on the This Is Your Life album.
This DVD contains rare footage from indie video label pioneers Jettisoundz' extensive archive. The Adicts' Up Yer Tower performance has been painstakingly restored and includes previously unavailable numbers from the gig. Filmed at the now legendary Blackpool punk all dayer in 1982 on a primitive VHS video camera it is a rare chance to see the band at their rawest. The Manhattan Club gig (1983) was originally released as a collector's edition video in the mid nineties. This footage has also been fully restored and the picture quality enhanced. The two promo clips were taken from the UK/DK compilation and, for the first time ever, you can watch the band in the comfort of your own home whilst enjoying CD quality sound. A rare treat indeed.
This is the first ever DVD to feature The Adicts, one of Punk's most colourful and entertaining bands. The DVD is packed with great Adicts footage, beginning with the original promo clips for "Joker In The Pack" and "Viva La Revolution", two of the bands most popular tracks. Also featured are two fantastic live sets, with the band at their very best.
"Live At The Manhattan Club" captures the band during their summer 1983 tour, during which they celebrated cracking the national chart with the single "Bad Boy", a performance of which is featured during the gig. "Up Yer Tower" features a live performance from Blackpool's world famous Tower Ballroom, during the venue's 1982 punk festival. Many of the bands hits, including "Steamroller" and "Too Young", are presented before a frenzied audience.
