Fulham Greyhound 29th October 1988
"The Newtown Neurotics played their final gig at the Fulham Greyhound, London, October 29th, 1988. This band walked it like they talked it and their fans knew it.
Throughout the dark, depressing, shallow, money grabbing me, me, me Eighties, the Neurotics shone like a beacon to those who believed that changed was essential and that it was possible to have a parliamentary democracy that truly represented all its people, providing equal opportunity for all. They knew that music alone could not bring this about, but the band oozed such pride, compassion and courage that it was impossible to leave one of their gigs unaffected. Recharged it was possible to fight another day.
And the songs, lets not forget the songs, the medium was the message but this was not just protest noise, these were things of beauty, they spoke to people in a personal way which appealed to the intellect as well as the feet. They suggested alternatives - yes alternatives! This seems so strange now that rock 'n' roll has all but sold itself out to being purely an entertainment commodity that raises perception no higher the waist and wallet. Not for them singing pious lyrics of feeding the world whilst supporting the politicians starving us all of a decent future.
This final gig was such and emotional night that even now it reaches out and touches you, the band played for over two hours and yet no-one wanted it to stop, now with the release of this DVD it doesn't have to. Watch it, get emotional, get angry then get out there and fight another day, there is much to be done."
