Recorded at the Queens Hall Bradford, England on 4th November 1989, to coincide with the release of Paradise Lost's debut album, Lost Paradise, Live Death demonstrates just why Peaceville Records were so eager to sign them. Pioneers of the Death Metal movement, the band went on to become one of the biggest names on the European Heavy Metal scene. Their trademark bleak attitude helped inspire a generation of Goth/Metal hybrids, fueling the burgeoning 'mosher' scene and opening the doors on a distinctly morbid legacy.
Paradise Lost were formed in Halifax in 1988 and were signed to Peaceville on the strength of just one demo recording. Lost Paradise sold steadily and earned them a firm and loyal fan base that continued to grow. The second album Gothic was released to critical acclaim and became a benchmark album on the Death Metal scene. The commercial success of Gothic lead to Paradise Lost being picked up by record label, Music For Nations and further success both in the studio and on the international live circuit. Available for the first time on DVD, this legendary recording at last brings you not only visuals of the band in their near infancy but, at last, you can hear the sound as it was meant to be heard. Not for the faint of heart and an absolute must have for all serious collectors.
Paradise Lost formed in Halifax, England in 1988; originally comprising vocalist Nick Holmes, lead guitarist Gregor Mackintosh, rhythm guitarist Aaron Aedy, bassist Steve Edmonson, and drummer Matthew Archer, the group recorded a pair of demo tapes, Drown in Darkness and Frozen Illusion, before signing with Peaceville Records to issue their debut album Lost Paradise in early 1990.
The band went on to have considerable cult success over the next decade - scoring 3 singles chart entries and a top twenty album "Draconian Times".
Paradise Lost are still very active - and have just completed recording a new album for release early next year. The band still tours the world playing to their ever-loyal fanbase.
"Live Death" features rare material from the band's very early days, a show filmed in November 1989, prior to the release of their debut album.
The majority of the songs from the set went on to form the "Lost Paradise" album that launched the band's career. |
