Sergio Mendes' first album with his new band Brasil '77 featured a new sound less beholden to his Brazilian roots and more indebted to the soul/funk/quiet storm sound of such '70s artists as Earth, Wind and Fire and Stevie Wonder. But that's not to say it's devoid of Latin flavor; compositions by Joao Donato and Gilberto Gil appear here alongside songs by Elton John and Edgar Winter...Sergio's eclecticism at its finest! |
