Never just another Jimmy Smith clone, Big John Patton infused his blues-based Hammond B3 organ style with modern harmonies and textures, producing music that was both accessible and individual, and that has come to define the term "acid jazz." He also became noted as a composer, and seven of the eight selections on this disc are Patton originals, rounded out by Archie Shepp's "U-Jaama."
