For over 20 years, Carmen Lundy has been one of the foremost pure jazz vocalists. On Something To Believe In, the world is sure to discover what many of us have known for years - Carmen Lundy has got it all. This new record aims to bring Carmen to her largest audience yet, while maintaining an integrity and dedication to excellence that has been uncompromising from her beginnings. It's a record with a universal theme. From the self-penned opener, "In Love Again," to the last strains of the classic "Moody's Mood For Love," the record is a passionate paean to love - and to life's search for it. Produced by Carmen's brother, bassist Curtis Lundy, with noted Los Angeles-based producer/composer Elisabeth Oei, the recording was completed in Montreal in the week preceding her triumphant debut at the city's prestigious Festival International de Jazz de Montreal. It features Carmen's core band of pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Curtis Lundy, and drummer Victor Lewis, with special guests, percussionist Mayra Casales, saxophonist Mark Shim and violin phenomenon Regina Carter.

Born: Nov 01, 1954 in Miami, FL
Genre: Vocal; Jazz

The sister of bassist Curtis Lundy, Carmen is a talented singer who is also a composer (writing a good portion of her repertoire), actor, and painter. After studying at Miami University, she moved to New York in 1978, where she worked with Ray Barretto and formed her own trio in 1980, using such pianists as John Hicks and Onaje Gumbs. Lundy recorded for Blackhawk (1987) and Sony (1988) and appeared in the plays Sophisticated Ladies and They Were All Gardenias, portraying Billie Holiday in the latter. In 1991, she moved to Los Angeles and has recorded for Arabesque (1992) and JVC. Although open to the influences of folk, R&B, and pop, Carmen Lundy is a strong improviser.
