'Mysterious Shorter' is the sixth title in Chesky's New York Sessions jazz series. The album pays tribute to the legendary Wayne Shorter and features interpretations of Shorter's music by the innovative tenor saxophonist and arranger Bob Belden and trumpet player Nicholas Payton along with guitarist John Hart, keyboardist Sam Yahel and drummer Billy Drummond. Over the years, Shorter played with Art Blakey, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock and was a founding member of Weather Report. 'Mysterious Shorter' features eight of his upbeat compositions in an investigation and exploration of the groove music of Shorter which has been specially arranged to take advantage of the trumpet, sax and organ line-up.
Acclaimed arranger/saxophonist Bob Belden interprets the music of legendary sax man Wayne Shorter with an all-star cast of musicians. This is the sixth installment in The New York Sessions series. "All of the sound here is powerful and propulsive. Once again we have a Chesky single-point recording that employs no overdubs, no signal path compression, no multitracking, and no mixing desk. It sounds so great you'll be tempted to ask why everybody doesn't record like this." --- Wes Phillips of Stereophile |
