Aaron Goldberg
Aaron Goldberg is an innovative and highly talented pianist/composer. He is a member of the Joshua Redman quartet and the Darren Barrett quintet in addition to leading his own ensemble. He has also performed and/or recorded with the Terry Gibbs/Buddy DeFranco quintet, Betty Carter, George Coleman, Nicholas Payton and Antonio Hart among others. He has been the recipient of awards from Berklee College of Music, Down Beat Magazine, The National Endowment for the Arts and was one of five musicians to be awarded a Clifford Brown/Stan Getz Fellowship from the International Association of Jazz Educators.
Turning Point is Aaron Goldberg's debut recording as a leader. The album is an exciting combination of original compositions and well-conceived arrangements of jazz standards. Joining for this session are tenor saxophone greats Joshua Redman and Mark Turner. Bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Eric Harland, who are the other members of the rhythm section, are widely regarded as among the finest of the new generation of jazz musicians. With the addition of Carla Cook and tablas player Karsh Kale', the listener is treated to some pleasing and unusual musical concepts that are not normally heard in the tradional piano lead jazz group. Turning Point is that rare recording that you`ll find yourself listening to over and over again.
