This time round Phil looks at music composed by Rodgers and Hart as well as three great jazz standards and an original all played with great feeling and much elan by the band and the soloists involved here.
Rodgers and Hart's 'Pal Joey' was the only Broadway Show with a book by John 0'Hara. It opened at the 'Ethel Barrymore Theatre' in New York on Christmas Day 1940 and ran 374 performances. It was among other things a show that gave a 28 year old Gene Kelly his first leading role. It was a liflle ahead at its time." |
