Dave Holland Quartet Dave Holland - Bass, Producer Kevin Eubanks - Guitar (Acoustic), Producer, Strings Mino Cinelu - Chimes, Percussion, Producer
A few weeks after the death of Miles Davis, his three most important sidemen amazed audiences worldwide with a pure acoustic set. Ever since, lots of fans have asked for recordings of this trio formed by percussionist Mino Cinelu, guitarist Kevin Eubanks and double bass-player Dave Holland. When looking for a name that would fit inti the wide musical range of this ensemble, World Trio, seemed like the most true and best fitting definition for the synthesis of englishman Holland, american Kevin Eubanks and french Mino Cinelu, their musical heritage and evolution. Indeed the music of the World Trio can not be considered as european or american jazz, but at least as a link between three different cultures. Their very first recording contains nine beautiful originals that sound easy and light but do reflect the state of the art of acoustic Jazz, performed by three true instrumental masters.

This intriguing set features percussionist Mino Cinelu with Kevin Eubanks (on acoustic guitar) and bassist Dave Holland. They perform four Eubanks songs, three by Holland, and two from Cinelu, music that ranges from exotic sounds to light and creative funk grooves. It is quite intriguing hearing Eubanks sticking exclusively to his acoustic guitar and Cinelu adds plenty of catchy yet unpredictable rhythms. However, Holland often takes solo honors and he usually holds the group together with his authoritative and flexible sound. Very interesting music that's worth listening to closely several times. ---Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

Percussionist Mino Cinelu is the son of a French mother and a father from Martinique. He took up the guitar as a child, but after visiting his father's island he turned to drums and percussion. He moved to England, then to America, where, in the early '80s, he began playing with Miles Davis, which led him to an extensive career as a session player for jazz and pop artists. In July 2000, he released his self-titled debut solo album, on which he played most of the instruments, sang, produced, arranged, and wrote the songs. ---William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide |
