Recorded 11/4/58 at Third Street Studios, Los Angeles, CA

Louis Valizian, Marvin Brown, Ronnie Ossa, Bob McKinzie (trumpets); Rene Bloch, Teddy Edwards, Nash Maez, Dick Houlgate, Augie Alcaraz (saxophones); Vince Diaz (trombone); Roberto Gil (piano); Charlie Blackwell (bass); Willie Bobo, Mongo, Jack Navarra, Lalo Guerrero, Juan Cheda, Mode sta Duran (percusssion)

Great 1958 stereo recording of Cha Chas, Mambos and R&B tunes by hot Hollywood-Latin Orchestra led by former Perez Prado alto star, Rene Bloch (Rene Bloch was also the alto soloist on the Johnny Otis Orchestra's 1945 hit version of "Harlem Nocturne"). All 15 selections are arranged by Paul Lopez, Roberto Gil and Rene Bloch. Arrangements and performances are tight and quite jazzy. Sound is excellent with wide stereo separation prevalent at the time.

Altoist Rene Bloch, who came to fame playing "Harlem Nocturne" with Johnny Otis and performing regularly with Perez Prado's band, went out on his own for this orchestra date. The jazz content on the CD reissue is fairly light, but the occasional solos from tenor saxophonist Teddy Edwards, the infectious rhythms, the clean and frequently exciting ensembles and the six percussionists (which include Willie Bobo and Mongo Santamaria) result in some stirring music. The styles range from Latin jazz and mambos to a few originals heavily influenced by rock & roll. A fun set.
