"Lines over Rhythm" is the composition by Sergi Sirvent that gives name to this very special project; you could say it embodies the whole concept of this piano/drums duet whose other half is Catalan drummer Xavi Maureta. They have recorded tunes by Charlie Parker, some originals, and the well-known standard It never entered in my mind. Playing without a bass might have been a risk, but it has given much freedom to their music, completely based on the groove. Both composers/players were looking for a duet with piano and drums when they met so - naturally - they started working together and have been doing so for a long time, experiencing with each other’s music, always trying to find new sounds and having fun, and that is precisely what this recording date contains: exciting new sounds and lots of fun. |
