AVID's latest despatch from the line of British jazz greats is a pairing of two of the best known professionals around… clarinettist Acker Bilk and tenor saxophonist Danny Moss.
For this unique recording they have formed a 'one off' Quintet and gathered together some great British jazz old timers. On piano, John Critchinson best known for this partnership with Ronnie Scott, on bass Cass Caswell has engaged a busy career on and off dry land playing on the RMV Queen Elizabeth, and lastly on drums Eddie Taylor a veteran of the British jazz scene having played with John Dankworth, Humphrey Lyttleton and George Melly!
Musically all bases are covered from old standards like 'Undecided' to 'Sweet Lorraine' finding Acker on vocals, to the swing tune 'Sugar' and classics such as 'Georgia On My Mind' and 'Sweet Georgia Brown'. So nothing showy - just good solid jazz played by a bunch of guys showing a mutual respect for each other and having a lot of fun!! |
