GHB is especially pleased and honored to present this important production featuring the legendary trumpet of Lu Watters and his smaller Yerba Buena Jazz Band. This is a unique group, no second trumpet or trombone, so that the jazz listner can clearly hear both the solo and ensemble performance of Lu Watters. For this and other reasons we consider this production of great significance. The smaller five-piece unit kept many of the tunes played by the "classic" Yerba Buena Jazz Band in the repertoire. But Watters also added a great number of popular tunes of the 1920s and 30s to the book for variety's sake. The five-piece band developed a looser, more relaxed sound than its eight-piece predecessor. |
