Reclusive and extraordinarily talented guitarist Tal Farlow didn't take up his instrument until the age of 21, but he managed to quickly become a legend within the jazz world. With his huge hands and his anachronistic ability to play light and fast tunes, he was among the top players of his generation, and achieved renown leading his own band that included pianist Eddie Costa. He spent fifteen years of his career avoiding the limelight and working as a sign painter, only playing small local gigs on the East Coast, before emerging to record a few last records for Concorde. This document of a live performance at Bowling Green State University is a testament to the virtuosity and stunning beauty of Farlow's playing, and features him playing such popular songs as "Misty," "Body and Soul," "Sophisticated Lady," "Billie's Bounce," and "Satin Doll," among others. |
