Kunene hails from the Kwazulu-Natal region in South Africa - homeland of Africa's most feared and proud warriors, the Zulus.
AKA 'King of Zulu Guitar', he's a self-taught acoustic guitar wizard, with a style deeply rooted in ritual and tradition - his music is based on ancient divination and his dreams are a frequent inspiration. Combined with Zulu folk song, often in a call-and-response mode, the effect is trance-inducing and harkens the blues in its early development. |
