David Theak - Tenor Saxophone James Muller - Guitar Phil Stack - Contrabass Craig Simon - Drums and Cymbals
Founded in 1997 to provide a platform for improvised music compositions, Theak-tet create a synergy which allows a freedom and communication rarely possible with thrown together groups. Their original, harmonically inventive, and melodic compositions set them apart from the pack. Internationally acclaimed and very well travelled, Theak-tet have received all the right awards and played in all the right places. Indeed it was during a recent German tour that Hrólfur Vagnsson captured this scintillating combo at their very best, with David Theak's prodigious tenor sax performance raising the bar for all to follow.
David Theak is a highly respected young saxophonist and bandleader on the Australian music scene. David was the first musician to receive a Master of Music (Jazz Performance) from the University of Sydney. He has featured on dozens of Australian albums including Steve Hunter's Nine Lives, Robyne Dunn's Live at the Basement and Theak-tet's Yellow Glasses. As a bandleader, he has led his group, Theak-tet (ARIA Nominated for Australian Jazz Group of the year in 2000), on tours of Australia and Europe including performances at many of Scandinavia's world class jazz venues and festivals. |
