"Piano music 1968 - 2000" is a monumental edition of 9 CDs by Anthony Braxton; all CDs are contained in one box with notes by Stewart Broomer. The music has been performed by the Belgian piano player Genevieve Foccroulle and recorded in New York by Jon Rosenberg to complete satisfaction of Mr. Braxton himself.

This stunning nine-disc set presents Anthony Braxton's complete written works for solo piano as performed by Belgian pianist Genevieve Foccroulle. The irony is that Braxton is a reed player, and has done most of his composing for ensembles. That this mammoth set represents only a fringe element of his output makes the achievement all the more impressive.
Foccroulle acquits herself admirably on these rigorously challenging pieces, each of which reveals Braxton's formidable musical intelligence. Among the more adventurous of the pieces is the lengthy "The Trip," which has parts for narration and dialogue from actors in it (Foccroulle performs all the parts while she plays). A noteworthy addition to Braxton's already bulging catalogue, PIANO MUSIC is a must for Braxton aficionados. |
