Huntsville second release is a double disc comprising three special guests. Norwegian singer Sidsel Endresen appears as guest on the track "eco", while guitarist Nels Cline and drummer/percussionist Glenn Kotche appear on "eras" - a nearly one hour long piece captured live in 2007.
First half of this double delight disc was recorded and mixed in Propeller Music Division, Oslo by Mike Hartung and Kåre Christoffer Vestrheim, assisted by Hasse Rosbach. Edits and additional recordings by ivar Grydeland. Second half was recorded live at Kongsberg Jazz Festival, 2007 by Thomas Hukkelberg, mixed by Giuseppe Ielasi. Both discs mastered by Bob Katz, Orlando, Florida, US.
This double cd set is the second from the trio of Ivar Grydeland, Tonny Kluften and Ingar Zach. One cd is a brand new studio recording where they are joined by the wonderful Sidsel Endresen for a short and beautiful vocal performance. The second cd is an almost hour long recording of the excellent concert they did with Nels Cline and Glenn Kotche from Wilco at the Kongsberg Jazzfestival in 2007. The live recording is top quality and mixed by Giuseppe Ielasi. Grydeland and Zach founded the Sofa label for improvised music in 2000, but in general the Huntsville project contrasts sharply with their other work, and reveals a quite different, more groove-based approach with strong elements of composition. In the last few years their interest in country music and electronic music has developed into a sound they have wanted to investigate further and maybe this has called for descriptions such as abstract drone americana and hypnotic country yoga? |
