8 Classic 1960 Vee and Jay Album From Jazz Legends Remastered With Bonus Tracks
Born William Evans, multi-instrumentalist Yusef Lateef had already played with Lucky Millinder, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus and Cannonball Adderly by the time he made these recording for Vee Jay Records in 1960.
Lateef was one of the first musicians of his era to incorporate music from the Middle and Far East in his work, his later recordings displaying an increasing interest in other ethnic musical forms.Recorded in New York, Lateef plays tenor sax on "Contemplation" and is accompanied by a fine supporting group comprising Nat Adderly (cornet), Barry Harris (piano), Sam Jones (bass) and Louis Hayes (drums).This reissue of Lateef's only Vee Jay album includes five bonus alternate takes and has been 24-bit remastered from the original master tapes. |
