Lee Morgan was truly a phenom when he burst onto the scene at 18, joined Dizzy Gillespie's band and signed with Blue Note Records where he made 5 great albums in 10 months! Volume 2, also known as Sextet, was recorded on December 2, 1956 and features the compositions and arrangements of Benny Golson and Owen Marshall. Morgan's sparkling, pungent style were already in evidence at this young age and the stellar sextet handles this fascinating material with grace and ease. This is the first recording of the classic "Whisper Not". |
