Jazz / Hard Bop; Soul-Jazz
Recorded: Sep 22, 1966, Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey Remastered: 2006, Rudy Van Gelder
Stanley Turrentine - tenor saxophone James Spaulding - alto saxophone, flute Pepper Adams - baritone saxophone Blue Mitchell - trumpet Julian Priester - trombone McCoy Tyner - piano Bob Cranshaw - acoustic & electric basses Mickey Roker - drums Joseph Rivera - shakers, tambourine
Duke Pearson arranged this rich, swinging 1966 all-star nonet date, a worthy successor to Turrentine's "Rough 'N' Tumble." Stanley's tenor sax is the primarily soloist and he burns through Pearson's "The Magilla" and Armando Bozo's "La Fiesta" with ease and soulfulness. Added to the original album is a version of Max Roach's "Lonesome Lover" from the session. |
