Ella Fitzgerald and Cole Porter inhabited vastly different words. But on the middle ground of song they made the perfect pair. When Norman Granz chose Porter's songs to inaugurate Fitzgerald's songbook series, he made the public aware both of the composer's great fount of music and singer's inexhaustible natural resource.
