JazzElla Fitzgerald was the vocalist for Jazz At The Philharmonic. Her range and scatting allowed her to participate in the jam sessions where she equaled the improvisations of the instrumentalists. Her jubilant style and exuberance allowed her vocal set to match the excitement of the all-star jams. As for the American Songbook, Ella Fitzgerald held an advantage over JATP's Ventura, Phillips, Jacquet, DeFranco et al for her interpretation included the lyrics. Yes, Ella Fitzgerald was the vocalist for JATP and quite possibly its dominant performer. |
