This seven-CD set is not to be confused with the later, similarly titled five-disc set from RCA devoted to Paul Desmond's work on the label with Jim Hall, nor with the early Mosaic set. Packaged as seven separate CDs (one of which contains only a pair of previously unissued outtakes, "By the River Saint Marie" and "All Across the City") in jewel cases in a slipcase with a booklet, it's a fuller account of Desmond's output during the period covered, principally because it includes Two of a Mind, his 1962 collaboration with Gerry Mulligan, which fell outside the scope of the later five-disc box. Otherwise, the sound is impeccable, the notes (which appear in English and French) are informative, and the set -- if not quite as conveniently designed as the later one -- is well worth owning for fans.
