Jazz
Recorded at Sony Music Studios, Studio B, New York, New York on May 22 & 23, 1995
Ray Brown - bass Benny Green -- piano Gregory Hutchinson -- drums Ulf Wakenius -- guitar Includes liner notes by Donald Elfman.
JazzTimes (4/96, p.75) - "...jazz becomes thoughtfully inspired conversation. Rather than parading hyper-virtuosic one-liners, there's a genuine give-and-take that builds gradually, and collectively, to make its points. In all, a small masterpiece where bluesy sounds-of-surprise tickle the mind as well as the soul."
The Ray Brown Trio in 1995 featured pianist Benny Green and drummer Gregory Hutchinson along with the leader/bassist. In the tradition of the mid-'50s Oscar Peterson Trio, the group featured tight arrangements with concise but consistently brilliant solos. For this Telarc session, guitairst Ulf Wakenius (a little reminiscent of Herb Ellis) fits in perfectly. Highlights include "Seven Steps to Heaven" and "Cotton Tail." ---Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |
