Red Garland established himself with the Miles Davis quintet and, at the same time, as a recording trio leader on Prestige; a master swinger and balladeer with a penchant for unearthing songs that had not yet been played into the ground. Here he takes his expertise in the blues and spreads it around a diverse sampling from that venerable idiom, again finding material from many different eras and revivifying many of the older chestnuts in his inimitable manner with the expert and highly empathic support of bassist Sam Jones and longtime cohort Arthur Taylor. Check out "St. Louis Blues." It's a very personal interpretation but W.C. Handy would have enjoyed it, to be sure. Red's Bluesville takes in a territory from Richard M. Jones's "Trouble in Mind" to television's "M Squad."
Includes liner notes by Bob Snead.
