In response to the considerable popularity of easy listening music in the late Fifties, Prestige president Bob Weinstock created the Moodsville label to showcase "mood" music that would appeal to fans of that genre. Moodsville produced some memorable music despite this dubious concept, beginning with the Red Garland record at hand. Garland and his trio mates, Sam Jones and Arthur Taylor, are joined by saxophonist Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis in a program of ballad standards ("When Your Lover Has Gone," "Stella by Starlight," "We'll Be Together Again") and an original Garland blues. |
