Jazz / Soul-Jazz; Hard Bop
Recorded: March 31, 1964
Shirley Scott, one of the most successful of the Philadelphia organists, came to prominence with the Lockjaw Davis trio of the late Fifties. In fact she was signed to Prestige largely on the strength of Lockjaw's hit "In the Kitchen". While many of her recordings were trio sessions, it was her collaboration with Stanley Turrentine that brought her even more into the limelight. Those recordings for Prestige (and Blue Note, Impulse, and Atlantic) still sound good today--this group presented consistently interesting fare.
