Recorded: Jan 1972, Decca Recording Studios, New York, New York
This critically-acclaimed and Grammy-nominated 1972 album marked the beginning of McCoy Tyner's nine-year association with the Milestone label and producer Orrin Keepnews. It is a deceptively simple record, employing four tunes from the band's regular repertoire and one solo piano piece. But Tyner seemed to have brought under control his overwhelming pianistic skills and the lessons learned during six years with John Coltrane. The results, particularly on the 23-minute development of the title tune, are lastingly impressive.
Includes liner notes by Bob Palmer.
