First Meditations gives us back the suite in its original beauty in the more conventional format Coltrane later had to sacrifice. And to hear both is succession is to add, not detract, from each version; in the earlier we now hear, latent, the fury of the later, while in the later we can now detect more clearly the beauty of the compositions themselves.
