"Bird" was Charlie Parker...arguably after Louis Armstrong, the most influential of all jazz musicians. Documented in this compilation is some of Bird's greatest work in a variety of contexts. Featured alongside some of his greatest collaborators, Bird can be heard in small groups, with strings, and in an extended jam.
Now's The Time is one of his signature blues compositions; Kim and Laird Baird are dedications to his stepdaughter and son, respectively; K.C. Blues recalls his hometown, and Just Friends contains his own favorite solo. These are among the highlights of this collection which should prove to be an ideal introduction to the music of Bird. |
