From his 1952 trios with Art Blakey through the great quintets with trumpeters Art Farmer, Blue Mitchell, Woody Shaw, Randy Brecker and Tom Harrell and saxophonists Hank Mobley, Clifford Jordan, Junior Cook, Joe Henderson and Mike Brecker to his '70s session with brass, woodwinds and percussion, Horace Silver proved himself to be an endlessly creative composer, pianist and band leader. The 45 selections on these 4 CDs includes the greatest performances from Silver's long, productive run with the label. The 52-page booklet has a wealth of previously unpublished Francis Wolff photographs from the actual sessions.
