Since his debut album in 1962 (produced by Duke Ellington), Abdullah Ibrahim (formerly known as Dollar Brand) has always been a strong and unmistakable voice on the international jazz scene. A co-founder of South Africa's legendary "Jazz Epistles" back in 1959 and an ENJA recording artist since 1969, Dr. Ibrahim has been a bandleader for nearly forty years and also worked with such as the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Elvin Jones, Miriam Makeba, Don Cherry, Max Roach, Archie Shepp, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Known as a pioneer of the world music synthesis and an eloquent spokesman for South Africa and African spirituality, his soulful music comes from the amalgamation of jazz, African rhythm, Arabic influences, English choral and European music of the romantic period.

After the overwhelming success of Abdullah Ibrahim's 1998/1999 album "African Suite" (with string orchestra), "Cape Town Revisited" features the other side of this master musician's artistry: pure piano trio music at its cooking best. Recorded live in 1997 in Cape Town during a triumphant tour through his home country, this disc presents some of Ibrahim's greatest tunes played in a spirited, concentrated and hard swinging way cheered by a thrilled audience. With the assistance of a sterling rhythm team made up of Marcus McLaurine and George Gray and featuring South African trumpeter Feya Faku as an inspired soloist on some tunes, Abdullah Ibrahim proves himself to be a hot virtuoso and highly imaginative improviser on the 88 keys. This is another indispensable highlight in the impressive Abdullah Ibrahim discography.
