This series provides a look at the contemporary jazz scene and its major players. Travelling the world over and recording performances given in intimate American clubs, outdoor festivals, and concert halls throughout Europe, it turns an eye to the milieu currently giving rise to jazz legends. The performances are ubiquitously warm and energetic, and the audiences always appreciative. This installment features Texan tenor saxophonist Arnett Cobb, known for his accessible style that was a mixture of swing and rhythm & blues; Cobb plays "The Nearness Of You" and "Bags Groove." Also making an appearance with his bossa nova-influenced melodic jazz guitar, is Charlie Byrd, playing "Wave" and "Someone To Light Up My Life." Pianist Ben Sidran, best known for his work with Steve Miller of The Steve Miller Band, plays "Mitsubushi Boy" and "On The Cool Side," while Les McCann plays "Someday We'll Meet Again."
This volume of Jazz Legends: Live! features performances by Arnett Cobb, Charlie Byrd, Ben Sidran, and Les McCann. Each entry in the series from Quantum Leap is a compilation of concert clips by some of the top names in modern jazz music.
