Jazz Vocal Cool Traditional Pop Vocal Jazz
Recorded: Jan 23, 1956-Apr 1961
Singer June Christy personified the vocal cool movement of the 1950's and recorded prolifically for Capitol during this time. While many of her recordings featured crossover novelties and uptempo standards for her warm, chipper alto, Christy's forte was always the ballad and this CD gathers 16 of her best. Included are Christy's unique interpretaions of such well known ballads as "My One And Only Love", "Softly As In A Morning Sunrise", and "Don't Explain" complemented by the sophisticated-yet-sensitive arrangements of Pete Rugolo and Stand Kenton alum Bob Cooper.
