The Kenny Drew Jr. Trio Kenny Drew, Jr. (piano); Lynn Seaton (bass); Tony Jefferson (drums)
Throughout the 1990s, Kenny Drew, Jr. has continued to grow into a consummate pianist. This diverse trio session kicks off with "Winter Flower," with Drew making full use of the keyboard while showcasing his formidable technique. Also present are classics such as Monk's "Straight, No Chaser" and "Played Twice," a dazzling "Isfahan," and a moody "Spring Is Here." Drew's one original is the moving "Argentine Rhapsody for Astor Piazzolla," which later evolved into a larger work for piano and violin. The accompaniment by bassist Lynn Seaton and drummer Tony Jefferson is on par with the leader's playing. ---Ken Dryden, allmusic
