Complementing 3, 4, 5: The Verve Small Group Sessions (849 395-2), this Carter omnibus brings together all of the genius alto saxophonist's combo sessions with the great Oscar Peterson. Carter and Peterson had first played together in 1952 at Jazz at the Philharmonic; it was the beginning of a musical and personal relationship that had continued over four decades.
"There are subtle differences between the Benny Carter heard here and the one of the Thirties and early Forties," comments Ed Berger, Carter's biographer, in his notes here. "He emerged form the turbulent Bebop Era unruffled but not untouched." This collection continues the recorded saga of the great alto saxophonist on Verve.
