This is the 2006 reissue of the album Roy Ayers originally released in 2001 on his own AFI label. The name of the album, PERFECTION, describes Ayers' well-honed brand of smooth soul-jazz. Lighter and breezier than Ayers's well-known '70s work, the tunes on PERFECTION are solidly groove-based, and the man's vibraphone chops are still in superior shape, but there is a gloss here that gives the album a contemporary, chilled-out lounge vibe. But make no mistake: it is still the legendary Ayers on the mallets, and PERFECTION holds his legacy in good stead. |
