The Very Best of Dave Grusin offers a bird's eye view of how the talented composer not only defines the evolution of jazz styles, but also defines the key players from each period. Grusin is a master at bringing out the best in phenomenal musicians. On "Bossa Baroque", set to 80' style instrumentals with drum machines, electronic keyboards and synthesizers, Grusin demonstrates his admiration for classical music, Brazilian music and jazz. "Punta del Soul" presents some of the hottest young players of the late eighties, including Branford Marsalis, Marcus Miller and Omar Hakin. Excerpted from the film score that won Grusin an Academy Award is the beautiful "Suite from the Milagro Beanfield War". "Take the A Train" and "Caravan" are sweetly reminiscent as odes to the legendary Duke Ellington. In a passionate tribute to his long time friend, Hollywood motion picture composer Henry Mancini, Grusin includes his acoustic performances on "Baby Elephant Walk" and "Peter Gunn" which were big Mancini hits. A master at composing, playing and arranging Dave Grusin has revolutionized the creativity and technology of jazz music.
