CONGA CALIENTE contains 2 LPs on 2 CDs: * FUERTE! (1988) * LA FAMILIA (1989)
Hailed as "the new king of Latin jazz" by JazzTimes Magazine, Poncho Sanchez has steadily recorded one Latin jazz classic after another since the early '80s. Mentored by Cal Tjader and Mongo Santamaria, by the mid-eighties the conguero/bandleader had clearly already come into his own as a distinctive and influential voice in Latin jazz. And by the late eighties - when he recorded these two now-classic albums, Fuerte and La Familia - Poncho and his tight-knit band were, quite simply, on fire. Concord Picante is proud to make these two important and exciting Poncho Sanchez sessions available in one special package.
Includes liner notes by Chico Mendoza, Helen Borgers and Roy Daniels.
