The late Chico Science is not the only hero of the Recife beach boys but more importantly it's him who is responsible for the interest in the sounds and rhythms of Pernambuco, a region so rich in music that all those no longer want to be stuck with Samba forever have travelled to the Northeast for new inspiration. Airto, who thankfully invited me to the recordings in Recife, once again shows us with this new compilation that his new direction, influenced by rhythms from Permanbuco, is the beginning of a new and exciting era right on the edge of a new millenium. |
