Born in Sao Paulo and classically trained, Eliane Elias burst onto the American jazz scene when fusion was at its height. Over the years, most particularly on her Blue Note recordings (1988-99), she proved herself an amazing artist in a variety of idioms. A constant theme through her varied albums has been her ability to blend the complexities of modern jazz with the lyricism and complex rhythms and gentle lyricism of Brazilian music.
Over the years, Elias has recorded many of the most important songs in modern Brazilian repertoire. She has the ability to maintain the flavor and integrity of Brazil without diluting the level and content of jazz. Sixteen of them are gathered in this compilation selected by the artist herself. Other musicians include Oscar Castro-Neves, Ivan Lins, Michael Brecker, Dave Valentin, Marc Johnson, Eddie Gomez, Jack DeJonette and Nana Vasconselos.
