Jazz
"Chet Baker Sings And Plays" was the successful 1955 follow-up to Chet Baker Sings. Like its predecessor, the core of the album is Chet's haunting vocals and superb trumpet solos supported by his quartet with Russ Freeman on piano. The crown jewels of this album however are "This Is Always", "Someone To Watch Over Me", "I Wish I Knew" and "Grey December" on which a flute, harp and cello quartet are added to the group. The artful arrangements of Marty Paich and Johnny Mandel clearly inspire Chet to dig deep for some of his finest vocals on record. An alternate take of "Let's Get Lost", first issued on EP, has been added to the album, which is transferred from the original tapes in 24 bit. This is the first time that "Chet Baker Sings And Plays" has been available on CD in complete form and using its original art and title. |
